There are three ways to prepare Ginger tea, the basic ingredient being the Ginger root itself. Ginger (also known as Hala, Luya or Gyin) is a very popular homemade remedy ingredient and it is gaining popularity all over the world because it can be prepared in so many ways. You can drink it plain, with milk or cold fusion. From these three, you can further experiment by combining other products that will either complement the ginger root's natural taste or soften it for easy consumption.
To prepare the root, scrub it well and then proceed to slicing it into thin strips or pieces for easy release of its juices into the water.
To prepare plain Ginger tea you will need to boil 3 cups of water and place a few thin slices of ginger root as it boils. Allow the ginger to sit in the boiling water for 5 minutes before pouring the mix into a tea pot. Allow 2 minutes to cool and serve. You can use honey or sugar to soften the natural taste of the ginger but this is an option based on the drinker's taste.
To prepare it with milk is basically the same, but the boiling process takes longer. This time, you will need to boil the ginger root for ten minutes.
As soon as the ten minutes is up, add 2 cups of milk and allow the mix to sit for another 2 minutes. This is a good remedy for upset stomachs.
Lastly, for those who prefer cold tea as opposed to hot tea, Ginger tea cold fusion is the perfect choice. Boil the water for 5 minutes and add the slices of ginger into it. Add a liberal dose of lemon extract and either sugar or honey to sweeten it. Stir well for 10 minutes and then pour into a glass with ice cubes. This should serve 4 to 6 people and can either be used as a remedy or a simple refreshment.
It has been widely used in Asia for a wide range of common ailments from slight fevers to motion sickness. Drinking a cup of Ginger Tea can alleviate an upset stomach. If you have a sore throat, Ginger tea can soothe the pain and bring your voice back. There are even cases where ginger tea has been used for cancer patients.
But is it really that effective? With the many claims people have made, ginger tea appears to be a miraculous cure! It is hard to believe though, that this really can be a cure-all.
There are many good effects to be gained, but only when taken in moderation. Like everything else, there are minor side effects of taking in too much of something.
For example, drinking too much ginger tea may lead to some excessive urination because it is a diuretic. Taken in large quantities, ginger in its powdered form can cause heartburn.
Ginger can also affect your blood pressure so if you're taking some anticoagulation drugs or cardiovascular remedies, it may affect the efficiency of these medicines and vice versa.
Ginger used to grow in the wild. Nowadays, they are raised in farms and you can easily buy them from your local grocers.
